• The context
In many laboratories, semen analysis still depends on the technician’s judgement and manual methods. This creates specific problems that affect the quality of results and the credibility of data.

• The system
Spermalyze integrates a heated stage microscope, 5-megapixel camera and proprietary software based on artificial vision and machine learning. Designed for routine ejaculate analysis in bovine, equine and canine, with algorithms trained specifically for each species.

• Full analysis

• Configuration
The heated stage microscope with 5 MP camera is the core of the system. The AS-10 automatic stage adds autonomy and throughput for high-volume laboratories.
• Traceability
Spermalyze includes a data manager that stores information on animals, centres, operators and doses. Filter, compare and export everything from a single interface.
Centralised database
Stores photos, videos and reports of all samples. Links initial analyses with subsequent quality controls.
Video re-analysis
Re-analyse past videos by changing parameters without repeating the work at the microscope.
Workflow
• Evidence
Spermalyze has been developed and validated with real bovine, equine and canine samples at European research and production centres. Its algorithms have been trained and adjusted under real conditions, not idealised laboratory environments.
Concentration correlation vs NucleoCounter®, the sector gold standard
Validated with fresh and frozen-thawed semen against NucleoCounter® and another commercial CASA system. Spermalyze obtains values closer to the reference standard across all evaluated concentrations.
High correlation for total and progressive motility in fresh semen. Good correlation values in post-thaw samples, where sample variability is inherently higher.
Compared against the average of 5 specialist technicians using eosin/nigrosine stained smears. More precise results in classification of coiled tails and DMR compared to the manual method.
Very low deviations when analysing two aliquots from the same tube in both fresh and frozen-thawed semen. Indicator of high system consistency between consecutive analyses.
